The Caregiver’s Song

The Caregiver’s Song

Father, You’re the strength that lifts the burden,

You’re the oil that soothes the pain;

You’re the sunlight when there’s darkness,

You’re the shelter in the rain.

You’re the hand that brings all healing,

You’re the song that calms all fear;

You’re the peace that brings all comfort,

You’re the God who’s always near.

-Roy Lessin

Yet another day unexpectedly spent at the hospital grasping at straws.  Keegan’s routine morning labs turned into an all-day affair in interventional radiology getting a dye study done on his new central line.  Once again, it would flush but not draw.  At the end of the day, it appears that this line is also “relaxing” up against the vein wall.  That’s good and bad.  Nothing that we need or can do to change it, and it’s still useable.  It’s just going to be positional and throw us a few headaches along the way.  Exactly what we need.  But we are trying to find the positive side in that it still works and is useable for now.

I haven’t been diligent about lifting up my frustration, anxiety, fatigue, and disappointment from Keegan’s trials up to the Lord lately.  Perhaps the Caregiver’s prayer above will remind me to do so because I know only He can lift that burden, replacing the pain with peace.  Knowing He can and will doesn’t always make it easy to do.  He won’t unless I try though, so that’s what I’m going to do.
The Lord is my strength and my song; He has given me victory.
